Lesson Series 28: National Legislation on Torture

PDF Format: Lesson 28: National Legislation on Torture

    The Issue

Torture is prevalent in most Asian countries, even though many of them have signed and ratified the Convention Against Torture and Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment (CAT). (See lesson series 07). The problem is that unless ratification translates into effective domestic legislation, there is no improvement in the conditions that give rise to the practice of torture.

    The Lessons

Lesson 1: Comparison of Hong Kong, Sri Lanka and Indonesia¡¦s domestic legislation with the CAT

Lesson 2: Comparison of Nepal, Cambodia and India¡¦s domestic legislation with the CAT
